Crane Cricket Club Lost Loss by 4 runs

Match report So to the last game of the season where Crane were invited to play in Maidenhead. After winning the toss and on request off of the opposition captain, Crane elected to field first.

A cloud and windy day welcomed both team and on inspection of the pitch, all the batsmen where smiling and were itching to get on what looked liked a belter of a batting track.

The opposition batsman quickly got into the groove and took control of the bowling. With superb and aggressive batting they blasted fours and sixes at will. The opening Australian and Pereira both made 50's with some huge hitting and excellent placement. The youngster Jas G bowled well with excellent line & length, Jason as usual had the batsmen in trouble with his movement but was unlucky not to take a wicket, the triplets of spin (Rahul, Romy and Sanj) couldn’t make quick inroads but took 6 wickets amongst them with Sanj breaking his last years record of wickets taken by ending the season with 35.

At the end of Boyne Hill's innings, Crane faced scoring 237 to win the game.

Hardeep and Romy opened Crane's account and they too got off to a great start with some magnificent stroke play. Romy was out first when the score was 90 off 15 overs scoring a splendid 38 but soon after Hardeep was out for a excellent 48. Crane were 110 for 2 of 20 overs.

The youngster Jas P was out cheaply but Daljit and Jason kept the momentum going with a spectacular display of batting & running. A tired looking shot cost Daljit his wicket and after making an brilliant 57 Jason got out to what was a very bad ball. Crane reached 188 for 5 needing 49 runs to win off 9 overs.

In came Varun who took on the mantle but he was losing his partners quickly losing both Rahul and Rishi. At 200 for 7, Crane needed 37 to win of 7 overs. With some brilliant batting an running Varun and Jas G kept to the run rate and unfortunately Jas G was run out with the score at 210. At this stage Crane needed 27 of 25 balls.

With the light fading fast, it was hard to adjust. In came Anoop who hit a brilliant four to ease the pressure but got out has he skied one to the deep. Sanj came in with 3 overs to go and Crane needing 18 runs to win.

Varun took control and began to find the boundaries and with some huffing & puffing from Sanj, Crane needed 6 runs to win of the final over.

Sanj was out caught as he tried to give Varun the strike and Crane's remarkable run chase came to an end with Varun left not out on a fantastically made 37. Crane came close but lost by 4 runs.

A brilliant day out for all concerned and a remarkable & enjoyable game of cricket. Shame someone had to lose and both teams came off to applause and with their heads held up high.

The game was played in the usual Crane spirit and sense of fun and Boyne Hill are looking forward for a return match next season.

A great game to end the season with and well done to all Crane member's to making this another fantastic year.
