Match report
And so it came to pass that word went out the length and breadth of Crane that Jason was looking for members to embark upon a perilous but glamorous adventure. In spite of the miniscule chances of anyone surviving to lay eyes upon the winning run let alone get past their batting demons and return with the prize, large numbers of heroes were ready to run the risk. These were known as the Argonauts, or as we know them as Crane Cricketers.
An overcast day welcomed Jason and his Argonauts. With our most prolific two batsman not available for this game, the skipper had no second thoughts in putting the opposition into bat when winning the toss.
Sunny and Jason opened the bowling and bowled with pace, movement and skill beating the edge many a time. Chances were few and far between but when they came they were not taken. Crane didn’t feel despondent and continued their assault on the opposition with a battery of fast and hostile bowling.
The opening bowling pair bowled a mammoth 26 over spell, taking 3 wickets and restricting Uxbridge to 76 runs. Then on came the spin twins Romy & Sanj, who between them bowled just as impressively with balls that turned and bounced. As time closed the innings of Uxbridge, Crane were delighted with keeping Uxbridge to 147 off 47 overs. Now it was the turn of the Crane batsmen.
Crane got of to a slow start losing early wickets and had reach 32 for 2 after 15 overs. In came Jason who at once accelerated the run rate with an array of strokes and with the help of Bob (his first game for Crane) turned the game around. Jason again played his 'copyright shot' with a glorious straight drive over the bowlers head, but this time going for four. At 20 overs, Crane needed 102 to win - a very reachable target.
Going steadying at 92 for 3 and with 11 overs to go, the unimaginable 'infamous Crane collapse' rocked Crane and tore the heart out of their challenge. Crane lost an incredible 4 wickets in the space of 7 balls without making a single run.
But the rear guard stuck to its job with Rishi, Sunny and Sanj batting out for a deserved draw.
