Match report
The Last Hurrah - Stars Spencer Tracy as Frank Skeffington who is an old Irish-American political boss, running for re-election as Mayor of of a US town for the last time. Film Directed by John Ford.
Echelon - An arrangement of a body of troops when its divisions are drawn up in parallel lines each to the right or the left of the one in advance of it, like the steps of a ladder in position for climbing.
Triad - a set of three similar things considered as a unit. Three people considered as a unit.
Jason set sail with his Argonauts, officially for the last time, for the customary last game of the Cricketing season to a large village in the Parish of Bray in East Berkshire, Holyport. Crane on losing the toss were tasked to field first on what was a glorious and stunningly hot day. The trees were still, the horses quiet and the skies were clear as Jason led out his team. Soon after the Holyport batsmen played & missed, edged and played shots hurriedly as Crane's armoury of quick bowlers let loose their ammunition.
Nick bowled fiercely as ever with pace and control, Sunny bowled with hostility and Jason was as per usual bowled with intelligence and movement. Crane had now found its fast bowling equivalent to the Triplets of Spin with the Triads of Pace.
The break through came via Jason who got the batsman to edge a ball to the keeper. Soon after Sanj had Holyport's big hitter overseas player back in the pavilion with Sunny running in taking a splendid low catch.
Holyport's tempo soon broke as they went from 94 for 2 to 99 for 7 with Sanj & Nick taking two and Vinod with one. With losing 5 wickets for 5 runs in 5 overs, the pressure was on Holyport to make a quick runs. But a run out by Sunny and with Ozzie chipping in a wicket in a short spell, they could only manage 141 on what was a good batting track.
Crane once again bowled well with Nick being the pick of the bowling showing his class with figures of 8-4-9-2 (with five of the runs coming of his last over).
Crane came out to bat with confidence with Ozzie and Romy blazing away. Ozzie was out with the score being 27 after 8 overs. Romy continued to find the boundaries (5 fours in his 22) but he fell shortly afterwards with the score being 41 after 12 overs. Then the ICC took hold and Crane lost 4 wickets for 1 run off 4 overs. Crane were 52 for 6 off 17 overs.
At the crease were Nick and Jason who between them made 70 runs of 10 overs taking Crane out of trouble and in sight of a victory. Nick blasted his way to a brilliant 38 (with 5 fours and a six) and was supported with fine running by Jason. Nick was eventually out with the score being 122.
Crane's problem here lies with keeping their wickets as 20 runs were required in 13 overs. Jason was then out with the score at 130, then Vinod falling when 134 and Sanj finally being run out at 135.
The Last Hurrah ended up with another disappointing defeat - for once again we have lost a game when on the verge of being victorious. The season started with the words 'Responsibility' and 'Accountability' being echoed around the upper & lower echelons of Crane's inner chamber and the season ends with these very words coming back to haunt us.
Well Done Holyport for another fantastic game of cricket and great hospitality.
For Crane they have to learn from the past three matches and go forward for next season.
