Match report East Preston Brief Historic Glimpse - For East Preston, the tenant-in-chief was the Earl of Arundel, except for a period of involved descent prior to the 16th century. Mesne lords held the manor by knights service. It is the immediate owners of the manor that were, and are, of greatest local importance. The last Saxon owner of East Preston manor had been the obscure woman Wulfeva, and after her the first Norman mesne lord was Robert, believed to be the sheriff of Arundel. After he died in 1087, a complicated succession of knights included the Milliers family from Norfolk, of Norman descent.

A hot day welcomed Crane to its first away game in East Preston (not to far from Littlehampton) and the opposition captain as tradition has it, put Crane into bat. A lovely ground in pleasant surroundings.

A brilliant start and foundation was giving by both our openers Ozzie and Romy. Ozzie made a beautiful 39 with stroke play at its finest and with Romy made a 100 run opening partnership in 21 overs. It seems Crane's own wolves came out to play. In came Zubin who with Romy accelerated the score and made a patient 23 before getting out. Romy continued on and as Lord of the Manor, took control and scattered the fielders in every corner of the outfield in search for the ball. Romy was eventually out by Chapman for a exquisite 96 (15 fours & 2 sixes). With a few overs to go, Mittal came and bludgeoned his way to a exciting 31 of just 11 balls and Sanj went on to make a quick fire 15 with only 9 balls to go. Crane's final score was 234 and Chapman took 4 wickets in his short 4 over spell.

East Preston opening pair went for the run chase at the start and played some beautiful shots. Mittal and Jason bowled beautiful line and length with Mittal making the breakthrough. Jason had the trap set, Mittal bowled wide outside of the off stump and with the batsman obliging skied the ball straight to Romy at the deep point boundary, who in turn took a splendid catch. Soon after Mittal had taken 3 and Jason one and the heart of the run chase was over. Sanj bowled well again chipping in with another 3 wickets. The only downside :o) or was it relief to this game was witnessing Jim bowl and after heckling from everyone eventually came off after bowing 3 overs for 5 runs.

The Opposition Man of the Match was Chapman who made 32 runs as well as taking 4 wickets.

Thank you to East Preston for their splendid hospitality and a great game.

Well done Crane!
