Crane Cricket Club Won won by 35 runs
Match report
Mars - the Roman God of War who had two son's Romulus and Remus. Romulus built Rome.
Brief Vulcan History - on the planet Vulcan a race of people split into two, the outcome being the Vulcans (who were logical) and the Romulans (who were passionate).
Today was the last chance for Crane's most powerful elite force to prepare and be battle ready before their arduous journey down south to engage their opposition to cricketing bouts, drinking contests and other such fun filled festivities.
Brighton began as a Saxon village. The Saxons conquered Sussex in the 5th century AD. One of them was called Beorthelm. He owned a farm (in Saxon a
tun) called Beorthelm's tun which, in time grew into the town of Brighton. There is a correlation between the Saxons of old and Crane's Warriors:
1. The word 'Saxon' derives from the word 'Sax', meaning a variety of one-edged sword. They may have had the Sax but we have the Willow.
2. The Saxons were thought to have originated from an area of northern Germany known as Schleswig Holstein. Their blood may have come from Schleswig Holstein but we have Holsten Pils in ours.
So on to today's match where Crane hosted Yeading, a team which we have not yet beaten. Crane has both a logical and passionate side to its nature. This combined strength makes Crane fear no team. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Suffer we all did in the heat of the day. Thus having won the toss the skipper had no hesitation in electing to bat.
Yeading's opening bowlers took control early with tight and aggressive bowling. They bowled beautifully with pace, movement, guile and swing. Crane got off to a slow start and after 12 overs Crane were 33 for 2 with the loss of Ozzy and Hardeep. In stepped Nick who upped the tempo with a quick fire 13 and after 17 overs Crane reached 55 for 3 with the loss of Nick. Since the start of the innings Romy was rock solid in defence and at the same time ticking over the scoreboard and laying the foundation for a good score. With great running and splendid stroke play, Romy battled away to a commendable 30. After 22 overs Crane were 84 for 4 with the loss of Romy.
Then in came Crane's own sons of war, Jason and Jim who took to the Yeading bowlers and amassed an incredible 88 runs in 10 overs with Jim eventually getting out for well earned 31. With elegance. power, great running and sublime execution of the bad ball Jason blazed away to a splendid 62 and with the support of the lower order, Crane rose like a phoenix from the fire of a slow start to the heights of a big score. Crane's final score was 200 - a target both gettable and defendable.
Nick and Ammo opened the attack. Yeading again got off to a great start reaching 29 for 1 after 6 overs with the early break through made by Ammo with Hardeep taking a good catch as the ball skied up high. Soon after Ammo had another wicket and Yeading were 32 for 2. Once again Sanj bowled well (as he has done so all season) not allowing the Yeading's batsman to accelerate the scoring.
Then in came Romy, who cloaked his Warbird and took to the opposition with a tremendous display of bowling and fielding (not forgetting his batting earlier in the day) and in the space of 7 overs seized control back to Crane. He bowled as a leg-spinner should do and showed his class with a ball that ripped away with Hardeep taking an excellent stumping and then a bit of magic by bowling Bill around his legs. In-between he showed his brilliance as a point fielder with a superb run out with a direct hit.
Rishi once again earned his name as Jonty with an unblemished display of fielding and Oz continuing his form with a run out (with Hardeep taking off the stumps) and a fine catch in the gully.
Varun was looking confident and he bowled brilliantly mopping up the tail with three splendid wickets. He also took the last wicket of the captain (who blasted his way with fours and sixes to an excellent 45 with Tushar taking a splendid catch in the deep) to wrap up a fine victory.
A special mention and thanks goes out to Anoop who came to watch us play but instead ended up fielding for us (in place of the skipper who aggravated his ribs) on what was a hot day. Much appreciated.
Finally a special thanks to Yeading who contributed fully to what was an
excellent days cricket.
'MajQa' Crane as the Klingons would say (which means well done).
