Scorecard

Knotty Green CC v Crane Cricket Club Crane on Sun 25 Jul 2004 at 2pm
Crane Cricket Club Won won by 123 runs

Match report Yam - edible tuberous root (Amorphophalus campanulatus) which when bought should be firm, unwithered and unblemished.

Grizzly - a large and ferocious bear (Ursus horribilis) of Western North America and the Rocky Mountains. It is remarkable for the great length of its claws.

Due to injury, Crane's skipper had to rest himself and his beloved Argonauts for the game against Knotty Green, giving way for Jim to lead the team. Jim went out to fields of beacon with his merry men looking to secure another win.

Once again Crane were asked by the opposition to bat first. Ozzy and Tushar opened the innings and they quickly found their feet, Ozzy continued his fine form finding the boundary line with ease. Soon after Crane lost both Ozzy and Kam quickly but a solid foundation had already been established. In came Mitul who only dealt in boundaries making a quick fire 32, showing his metal which a huge Six over cow corner.

Then in came Rock Steady Steady Rocking All Night Long Jim. Using his willow like a dentist's drill he soon started to bore holes into the Knotty Green bowling and began filling the gaps with glorious boundaries. His crowning glory being the superbly played square cuts which rocketed to the boundary each and every time. His innings was firm, unwithered and unblemished scoring 85 runs in 18 overs. Well done JimiKand (amusingly the Indian name for Yam).

Tushar being the youngest member of Crane has been like a teddy bear all season - always being soft, gentle and friendly to the opposition bowlers. But today was when he threw away this unwanted mantle and became a grizzly with some aggressive batting but was unfortunately run out after making a tremendous 44.

Rishi was unlucky - firstly he middled the ball beautifully to be dropped on the boundary (the unlucky part was in not finding the boundary) and secondly he middled the ball once again but this time he was caught (the unlucky part was in finding the fielder).

In came Daljit, who once again with Jim, accelerated the scoring with some huge hitting resulting in making 65 runs of the last 5 overs. A formidable final score of 241 was made.

The speed merchant Sunny was rested and the onus of opening the attack went to Daljit & Varun. They both bowled well keeping a tight line as well as making the ball move, with Varun making the early break through with a quick pickup and run out off his own bowling. The fielding was once again sharp with Rishi, Kam and Tushar doing well in the Gully and Point regions.

Sanj bowled with both control & variation and he performed his magic with his off spin, yet again taking another 5 wickets haul. Ozzy bowled well taking 3 wickets and Sunny taking one with his spin.

A special mention to Knotty Green who played the game as it should be played with spirit, passion and fun banter. A great day for cricket regardless if one was on the losing or winning team. Also special thank you to the fans (Dilber, Shoiba & Jas accompanied by Skippy & 'I'm Hard, I'm Hardeep) who came out to watch us play and have done so all season. Thanks for the support.

Well Done Crane!
