Farnham CC v Crane Cricket Club Crane on Sun 11 Jul 2004 at 2.30pm
Crane Cricket Club Won 70 Runs

Match report The explanation of va-va-voom is: "The quality of being exciting, vigorous, or sexually attractive".

Jason and his Argonauts set sail for yet another exciting adventure but this time heading for the green seas of Bishops Stortford. Crane lost the toss and were once again asked to bat first.

Crane made a disastrous start by losing Romy in the first over and soon we had lost the top six batsman for only 35 runs in 12 overs. Most of the wickets that fell were due to poor shot selection and/or error in judgement when reading the pitch. The pressure was unbearable and Crane were looking at being bowled out for a hugely embarrassing total. But in stepped Bob and Varun - better known as Va Va Voom. After a cautious and watchful start, both Va Va Voom and Bob soon took control of the situation with solid defence, superb stroke play and excellent running between wickets. Varun made a brilliant 50 and together with Bob made an 89 run partnership to take Crane out of the mire it had earlier put itself in. Crane eventually were all out for 139 runs. Disappointingly they didn't bat all their overs but Crane were very much pleased since they had some runs on the board for their bowlers to defend.

In the Crane changing room Jim gave a speech that fuelled the player's pride - the gauntlet was thrown down and the challenge set. Crane's passion and determination to not to lose this game was shown on the very fist ball when after the batsman defended the ball, all of Crane's close fielders swooped down to the ball. It was like the batsman was trapped in Crane's web with the predators awaiting their prey.

The first breakthrough was made by Jason with a ball that moved away and Varun taking a remarkable catch in the slips. It was going to be a Va Va Voom Day. After 8 overs, Crane had restricted Farnham to 10 for 1. Soon after Farnham were facing defeat with some excellent bowling (Jasons four overs only went for four runs and Sanj bowled brilliantly taking 5 wickets) and superb fielding (with Bob taking a fine catch and a perfect run out).

But a special mention has to be made for Sunny's bowling. It was fast, hostile and unplayable. The fire was burning within him as he unleashed his wrath on Farnham. The highlights to his brilliant bowling was the his two wickets. The first one beating the batsman for raw pace and the second was a majestic delivery which was even quicker, moved and getting an edge to the keeper (Anoop taking a good catch).

Jason marshalled his team well and with a brave and attacking field, all his fielding placement & bowling changes decisions paid off. This Crane performance would have even made the "Mona Lisa" smile.

Crane Cricket Club seeks to redefine the common cricketing experience, and elevate the fun to a status not usually enjoyed and achieved by other teams. The game comprises of Cricket Played as it should be, with robust fielding , glorious wicket taking and evocative boundaries. The players enjoyed an amalgam of exciting cricket specially blended with skill, guile and sportsmanship. This type of Fusion cricket with spirit, desire and unity is integral to Crane's performance. Once again the opposing team were not let down.

Well done Crane.
