Crane Cricket Club Crane v Ealing Park CC on Sun 06 Jun 2004 at 2pm
Crane Cricket Club Won Win by 2 wickets

Match report The gladiators came out into the arena baying for blood so avenging the previous defeats in battle that were met by their forefathers. With vengeance in their eyes and commitment in their heart the mighty warriors came out to battle.

If this was an historic event the above is very close to describe the feelings running through the Crane camp.

But this is cricket, and hot weather welcomed both the players of Crane and Ealing Park. Nothing betters the sound of willow on leather and the eruption of noise that follows the scoring of the winning run.

Today was such a day.

Having lost the toss, Crane went into the field. Sunny's & Jason's opening spell of fast bowling was accurate, hostile and impressive. The batsman gave a few early chances that were not taken and played some beautiful strokes. Then in a space of a few overs we had both the opening batsman in the pavilion and they stood at 40 for 2 of 8 overs. In came Jonathan who after a very streaky start started to look solid and at 15 overs they had reached 75 for 2. A big scored loomed.

In came Sanjeev and Vinod who once again bowled impressively. At one stage Ealing Park scored only 3 runs of 4 overs from Sanjeev. A delightful display of off-spin. With the run rate now in check, the pressure built on Ealing Park. Jonathan was out for a brilliant 96 with Romy taking a splendid catch and then wickets began to tumble with Ammo taking four. We reduced them to 172 of their allotted 40 overs.

Crane came into bat. Oz and Romy made a good opening stand with some fine shot play. After 10 overs Crane were 40 with the loss of one wicket. In came Hardeep who continued to bat as he did with the form of last week and played beautifully for 41, spraying the ball all over the park. Crane lost 3 wickets quickly and the Crane nerves were rattled. We were scoring well but it was keeping our wickets in tact that was the cause of nervousness. Jim batted solidly and took command of the situation. The pressure was relieved, with some inspired batting from Indrabir and Rishi, hitting some welcomed boundaries. Jim took us home with an over to spare.

A great team effort for a great win. It was a fun day and applauds to Ealing Park for making a great game.

Previously Anoop mentioned responsibility (the social force that binds you to your obligations and the courses of action demanded by that force: "we must instil a sense of duty in our cricketers"). After this display we became accountable (Liable to being called to account; answerable for our actions).

Well done boys.
