Crane Cricket Club

Scorecard

Southwick CC v Crane Cricket Club Crane on Fri 10 Aug 2007 at 11am
Crane Cricket Club Won by 13 runs

Match report Crane travelled down to Brighton, for a one day game, against Southwick CC.

What a game it turned out to be…does anyone like the roller coaster or merry go round….that’s exactly what it was!!!!!

Crane opened the batting on an excellent pitch, short boundaries and lovely hot sunshine…

Romy and Bob got off to a steady start, Romy falling in the 8th over, by playing a false shot.
Gurjit and Bob continued scoring at a reasonable rate, Bob falling straight after lunch; with the score at 76 for 2…will Crane get the par score, of 250??

A magnificent pub lunch, I don’t know how many chicken burgers Gurjit and Hardeep had, but after lunch, it was all guns blazing. Crane increased the scoring rate to 10, 12 15 runs an over….suddenly, the score was getting closer to the target….Gurjit close to the magic 100.
Gurjit finally reached his 100, what a great innings, eventually falling for 119…in the 37 over…Gurjit blasted the ball all over the park, with 3 huge sixes.
Hardeep continued scoring quickly, scoring 32.
The rest chipped in with a few runs.

Crane declared at 3.40pm and put in Southwick for a few overs before tea, scoring 257 for 8. The skipper confidence that Crane have scored enough runs..

Southwick’s turn to chase down the runs….

Southwick started cautiously, but some wayward bowling from Mitul, gave Southwick a chance to get back on track with the required rate. Crane got the breakthrough thanks to Bobs direct hit from the covers.

What was going on, everybody in the team was hitting the wicket….it must be in the teas…

On came, the Sandhu brothers, pace, length, speed and accuracy, the brothers picked up 5 wickets…Gurjit inflicted more damage, with a great one handed run out…the boys on fire……

Suddenly, Southwick, started picked up the run rate, and were back on track, by some wayward bowling by the spinners….

Who’s going to come out victorious!!!!!!

With 233 for 9, not many required to win….the skipper called on Mitul and Gurjit to get the final wicket…
Mitul gave away 8 in his final over……not much needed now, can Crane get the final wicket…
Gurjit ran up to the wicket, dot ball, again up to the wicket, 2 runs, then another dot, runs in again, bang!! 4 runs….Who’s going to win?? Again, runs in, what a delivery, middle stump Yorker……Out….

Southwick all out for 244 runs….Crane win by 13 runs….

What a game of cricket, doesn’t matter who won the game. So intense, up and down, the crowds all going wild….this is what cricket is about…!!!!!

Well done to everyone, who participated in this game of cricket.
Big thanks to Southwick for the game and the magnificent BBQ afterwards…..
