Crane Cricket Club Crane v BA on Sun 11 Jun 2006 at 2pm
Crane Cricket Club Won Win by 72 runs

Match report
Crane emphatically brushed away any lingering disappointment from last week’s game with a supersonic performance this week against British Airways CC. Having swapped seats in the cockpit for this game, it was captain-for-the-day, Amarjit Sandhu, and co-pilot Hardeep Khangura, who navigated Crane to their third victory of the season.

Crane, choosing to bat first having won the toss, got off to a flying start as openers Chaz Virdee and Oz Hussain pushed the score to 45 runs. It wasn’t until a BA bowling change that Crane lost their first wickets, as both Chaz (27 runs) and then Oz (17 runs) were out caught to the accurate bowling of BA’s Yahya Brohi.

The arrival of Crane’s Hardeep proved to be the pivotal moment in the match; the vice-skipper constructed the core of the innings with a wonderful display, forming solid partnerships with Gurjit Sandhu and Bob Rehill, before putting on a scintillating stand of 53 runs with Mitul Bathia. Hardeep came in to bat with the score at 45-1. After 8 boundaries, and a top score of 62 runs, he departed in the 35th over with the score now up to 185-7… a tremendous effort.

Mitul continued his good form as he thrusted his way to a score of 23 runs. Shortly after his dismissal a satisfied Crane team arrived at their final destination, all out for 201 runs. For British Airways, Prince bowled economically while Yahya Brohi bagged 3 wickets from his determined spell.

After re-fuelling at tea, Crane returned to the field knowing that they needed to make early in-roads into BA’s line-up. Young Gurjit duly obliged by producing a splendid caught & bowled to remove Omar for 17 runs. Hardly a turbulent time for BA as they were still scoring at more than 5-an-over, but much better was looming just over the horizon for Crane…

Pumped-up from the energy of Gurjit’s first wicket, a fiery Sunny Bajwa opened his third over with the wicket of opener Tarosh. His adrenaline still flowing, Sunny then hurtled down the runway and, in quick succession, rattled the stumps of BA’s fourth and fifth batsmen. An inspired ‘Sunny’-spell, who proved that his radar was actually working by following this over with a maiden! But the highlight of his impressive bowling came in the over that followed; Sunny produced yet another fantastic delivery and saw it slashed to Oz at gully, who then left everyone standing open-mouthed by holding onto a stunning catch.

Crane’s fortune was mirrored by a mini crisis for BA, and while Yahya Brohi tried to answer BA’s calls of mayday by dealing in boundaries, he was eventually out caught to Bob Rehill of the bowling of Mitul. BA were now 77-8 in the 22nd over, but Prakash (20 runs) and Prince (34 runs) in the tail-section produced a spirited display to restore some respectability to the innings.

Brought back late on, it was Gurjit who took the final BA wicket, ensuring Crane touched-down safely with a winning margin of 72 runs. Sunny finished with a 4-wicket haul while Gurjit, Mitul and Oz grabbed 2 wickets each.

Crane later sat in the bar and reflected on what was an high-altitude performance. Well done Crane and many thanks to British Airways CC for a great game. Wishing you all the best for your upcoming fixtures.
