Match report
"Caught in the heart of a nuclear explosion, victim of gamma radiation gone wild, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner now finds himself transformed in times of stress into the dark personification of his repressed rage and fury -- the most powerful man-like creature to ever walk the Earth: The Incredible Hulk!"

After a successful tour of Torquay and still full of wine, woman & song, Hardeep's Merriest and Victorious Men came home to roost. A very hot day and the Roses from Egham welcomed the weary troops. Crane after losing the toss were led out to play by their new vice captain Amo, Mr. ‘Don’t Get Me Angry, You Wont Like Me If I Get Angry' Sandhu.

Crane’s bowlers came out firing, making the Egham batsman play and miss on several occasions. The early exchange was tight and tense as it always is when these two teams come head to head, but the Egham openers weathered the early storm and soon settled into the task they came out to do, that being to bat well.

After a slow start, Foulds and Thatcher started to hit the bad balls to the boundary with dismissive ease and soon had the run rate accelerating. They put on a splendid opening partnership of a hundred, with Foulds making a marvellous 86 and Thatcher a patient 35, which gave the other Egham batsmen a base to make a huge score. The top six batsmen all made double figures and as a collective made an impressive 227 of their allotted overs. Sanj bowled well in his opening spell, stemming the run rate, but with the field back the Egham batsman found the singles easily. Egham were at one stage looking to score over 250 but were pegged back by some fabulous bowling by Rahul who took 4 wickets.

Crane were left to rue some difficult missed chances, some ordinary fielding and the fact they bowled too many ‘four’ balls.

Crane's batsmen came out to bat with confidence with the pitch being a glorious batting track as well as the outfield being fast. Crane got off to slow start in their run chase as Egham bowled with disciplined line and length. Crane didn’t have too many bad balls to hit at the beginning and when they did get an opportunity the fielders in the deep always fielded the ball brilliantly. Egham stifled the runs and thus put pressure on the Crane batsmen.

After 13 overs Crane had their backs to the wall, as they were 42 for 2 with both Jim and Jason out. With the pressure mounting Ozzie and Rahul started to push up the scoring rate with some excellent running between the wickets and sublime placement. They were scoring with ease making 48 runs in 7 overs when disaster struck as Ozzie got run out after making a gritty & determined 47. Rahul, Bob R. and Amo all played well and reached double figures but got out at key moments as they were under pressure to score quickly as well as maintain good partnerships. Crane capitulated to the pressure and the chase was over as they lost their last five wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs.

Crane's star performer today was Rahul who outshone everyone in his team in all aspects of the game with bowling figures of 8-1-34-4, and a batting score of 35 runs to go with his top class fielding display, the best of which was a brilliant one-handed diving catch off his own bowling!

Well done to Egham Roses for a splendid win.

As Voltaire once said 'Men are equal; it is not birth but virtue that makes the difference.' The meeting of these two teams has been a regular fixture for many years now where the players have got to know each other well and there is much respect & appreciation for each other’s ability and sportsmanship. Let this rivalry & friendship long continue as it brings out the best in both teams since both teams play this game with the spirit and passion it deserves.
