Match report
Triad - a set of three similar things considered as a unit. Three
People considered as a unit.
ICC - Infamous Crane Collapse
Juggernaut - An overwhelming, advancing force that crushes or seems to crush everything in its path.
So onto the picturesque ground of Prestcold where with their Mighty
Trees and Polo Horses the opposition awaited Hardeep and his merry men. Crane had reason to be merry for they have been victorious in their past 3 games and were eager to wash away the horror of last year's defeat. A dry but cold day welcomed both teams. Hardeep lost the toss for the first time this season and we were asked to field first.
Crane's Triad of Pace (Sunny, Jason & Mitul) opened up the attack and let loose their firepower. They soon had the Prestcold batsmen in trouble at 37 for 3 with some awesome display of pace, movement and control. Bowling of the highest calibre - Sunny bowled a lovely slower ball to get the opener P.Desbos out caught at mid-on; Jason bowled the ball of the season bowling D.Rosier around his legs; Mitul bowled a corker of a yorker to mop up Prestcold’s best batsman H.King. Crane continued to bowl with discipline and soon had Prestcold struggling at 93 for 7.
A crucial moment then occurred where the climatic atmosphere changed and, as the rain began to fall, the ball stopped swinging and uneven bounce started to show. In came Crane's very own Gurjit (who was playing for the opposition as they were a man short) and after a very sticky start showed the talent he has. Gurjit played impressively well scoring 26 out of the final 36 runs with some beautifully played shots. Prestcold ended their innings with 129 runs with Gurjit’s innings being the highest knock. Crane's fielding was not at it's best but Hardeep had a great game behind the stumps making some fine diving stops and taking a hard low catch. Crane bowled well once again with Mitul taking three wickets and Sunny two.
Needing a very much gettable 130 to win Crane got off to a solid start and soon were 31 for 1 after 8 overs. Ozzie, Jim, Sunny and Jason all worked hard to reach double figures with some good stroke play, excellent running but above all with a gritty & determined attitude. A tactic that Prestcold employed was for their wicket keeper to stand up to all their bowlers - this approach worked perfectly for them, as our batsman weren't allowed to play their natural game.
The ICC once again took hold where Crane lost 4 wickets for 6 runs in the space of 7 overs and from a comfortable position Crane were struggling at 37 for 5 after 15 overs. The opening bowling pair of L.Rosier and A.Rosier bowled particularly well, making good use of the conditions presented to them, and gave Prestcold the foundation they needed.
Crane were down at this stage but not out as they had a good batting line-up with Jason coming in at 9. The essence was to get partnerships going and not to lose any wickets with some slack shot play. Alas as predictable as predictability can be the die was cast and Crane soon stumbled to defeat being bowled out for 96 in the 34th over.
Well Done Prestcold for your hospitality and another good game. We look forward to hosting you for the first time at Crane in August.
Another disappointing defeat - for once again we have lost a game when on the verge of being victorious. Last season the words 'Responsibility' and 'Accountability' were being voiced by Crane's membership and now these very same words should not be forgotten.
To end on a humorous note - a mention to Hardeep who became Crane's second 'Juggernaut' (the first being Va Va Voom Varun). From buying a jug for his hundred against ICL in his last innings to being out for zero this week - hence Jug-n-Naught.
