Crane Cricket Club Lost Loss by 23 runs

Match report
A cold and windy day bought the sides of Crane and Uxbridge together as Hardeep lead his troops for the first time at home. Once again, the luck was on our side as we won the toss and the skipper elected to field first.

Sunny, on show for the first time since his marriage, bowled with a passion like a man who had just learnt a new trick or two; his opening spell of 5 overs conceding a tight-fisted 10 runs. Yet the Uxbridge openers warmed to the occasion and made an impressive start scoring 61 of the first 15 overs with the ball being sprayed to the boundary with some beautiful batting. Sanj continuing his form once again broke the deadlock with Crane's first wicket.

With Uxbridge threatening to run away with the game with a huge score, Crane's bowling and fielding once again clicked into action like an engine running at full throttle with all the pistons and gears pumping in tune with one another. A total of 8 catches were taken - a special mention to Amo and Rick who took some great catches running from the deep. But the best of the day were taken by the one-handed-wonder Sunny with two brilliant one handed (left as well) catches at point… purely magical! All bowlers contributed with Vinod finishing with 3 wickets and Sanj with 4.

After 20 overs Uxbridge were 75 for 4, Edmonds & Zahir then dug deep for another good partnership of 68 but Crane took control as Uxbridge lost their last 6 wickets for 9 runs in 5 overs. Crane needed to chase a very gettable 150 for victory.

Crane's innings started and then stopped and then re-started like a member walking home from a night drinking at the White Hart (our local watering hole). Bob R. hit 3 powerful fours in the second over but a short bowl that kept low took his wicket as he was gearing up to hit yet another boundary. Hardeep came in soon after and with some exquisite stroke play and raced quickly to 26 before losing his wicket to a mistimed shot. Crane had slumped to 58 for 6 off 19 overs. In came Sunny who steadied the ship and with some lovely batting & quick running upped the tempo to a point where Crane needed 46 runs to win off 10 overs. Unfortunately Sunny was out for an excellent 32 and then Crane lost the battle being bowled out for 126 with 6 overs to spare.

Well done Uxbridge for a tremendous game and for allowing a fun-filled and spirited day out for all concerned. We all look forward to our next meeting at Uxbridge in July where we will be trying to turn the tables.

Voltaire once said 'Judge of a man by his questions rather than by his answers'. Once again Crane asked the right question when bowling & fielding but didn’t have the answers when it came to batting. Crane's first victory still eludes them as yet again the batting fails to deliver.

Shouts of 'Where are the Jugs' can be heard echoing across the green turf we call home in reference to the fact that a jug of beer has not been bought to salute an individual's great performance. So to quench this thirst lets all pray so we all can drink plentifully from some huge jugs very soon. This is our new Quest, our very own search of Crane's Holy Grail.
