Match report
ICC - Infamous Crane Collapse

As the seasons of nature pass through one into the other, changes are born through an amalgamation of the growth of the new and the stability of the old. Voltaire once said 'Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well'. Crane welcomed a new captain, Hardeep and vice-captain, Uzmat (Ozzie) to continue the triumph, cheers and camaraderie.

So onto their first adventure away to Putney with Hardeep and Ozzie taking charge of their first game. Their hearts were fluttering and emotion’s nervy, as the helm of the Crane ship was to be steered by them for the first time. The weather was fair and the luck was on our side as we won the toss and the skipper elected to field first.

Crane's slumbering army awoke quickly and soon began to function like a well-oiled machine. Nick as usual was at his fiery & brilliant best in his opening burst of pace, accuracy and skill. Limiting the batsmen of any run-scoring chances, his first 5 overs went only for a parsimonious 7 runs. Sanj continuing his form from last season broke the deadlock with Crane's first wicket & catch of the season. Crane's fielding was impeccable with no mis-fielding and every catch offered taken gratefully, a special mention here to Rishi for his catches. Crane soon had Putney struggling at 96 for 9 where 7 off these wickets were catches but Putney held on in the form of Lennon who made a brilliant 53 and took Putney to a final score of 155 off 36 overs. All bowlers contributed with Romy finishing with 3 wickets and Sanj with 4.

Hardeep and Romy gave a Crane a great start scoring 42 runs of the first 11 overs with some excellent shot play. Hardeep was playing nicely for 23 and Romy steadily for 16 when disaster struck. From mastering the roulette table with the batsmen hitting the numbers selected at every opportunity, we ended up as the ducks in a shooting gallery where the opposition started firing us down at ease. The ICC was upon us again where Crane lost 7 wickets for 20 runs in the space of 9 overs which included a new Crane unwanted record of 5 consecutive ducks. Crane was finally bowled out for 95. The innings top score was 28, which were made by extras.

How fortunes change where at one stage with Putney 96 for 9, Crane sensed a win but ended up stumbling to defeat. Well done Putney for yet another display of good cricket and great spirit. Don’t worry we will be back next year to reverse the result.

The first adventure didn't bring victory but everyone knows that battling contributions from all are needed if safe passage is to be made for what it seems will be a hard fought season ahead.
